A driver covering 12,000 miles per year can pay substantially different home-charging costs depending on local electricity prices.

Key finding

The highest modeled result is Hawaii at $1530.82. Every row uses the same model so the price or equipment assumption is the changing variable.

Methodology

  • The model assumes 12,000 miles per year and 3.5 miles per battery kWh.
  • A 10% charging-loss allowance converts battery energy to energy drawn from the wall.
  • The comparison excludes public fast charging, demand charges, and time-of-use discounts.
